THE DIRT ON DIRT
The Ground Up welcomed Houston’s top landscape professionals for an enlightening seminar on soil and compost nutrition

HOUSTON (January 21, 2011) — On January 20, 2011, Houston’s Premier Landscape Supply Company, The Ground Up (TGU), sponsored an educational seminar entitled “The Dirt on Dirt: Landscaper’s Guide to Soil Health & Nutrition”.  More than 40 businesses were represented at the seminar including landscape architects, design firms, construction companies, and commercial and residential landscapers.  These industry leaders gathered at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center to hear world-renowned organic soil scientist, Dr. Elaine Ingham, speak on the topics of proper soil biology and landscape sustainability.
Dr. Ingham, President and Director of Research at Soil Foodweb, Inc., has received global recognition for her organic approach to soil science.  “That which is biologically correct is always economically the most feasible,” said Mike Serant, Chairman for Organic Horticulture Business Alliance. “The Soil Foodweb Method clearly shows us scientifically that working with the laws of nature will produce the best results and at a lower operating cost.”  Anyone from large-scale commercial landscapers to backyard gardeners can apply the Soil Foodweb Method to optimize soil nutrition and promote healthy plant growth – thus creating a self-sustaining environment that is both organic and cost effective.
In addition to providing quality landscaping materials, TGU also strives to provide educational resources to the landscape industry.  “Knowledge is the key to understanding how to build and maintain a successful landscape,” said Kyler Fields, General Manager at TGU. “We hope that our guests appreciate the wisdom Dr. Ingham has to offer and will apply what they’ve learned when planning future projects.”  Besides hosting expert speakers, TGU has also begun holding on-site group tours that explain in detail the processes involved when manufacturing high quality, organic mulch, compost and soils. With such high emphasis placed on quality control and sustainability, it is clear that the team at TGU is moving fast to better serve Houston’s vast landscaping needs.
